Environmentally responsible choices are seamlessly integrated throughout each phase, including material and finish selection, building systems design, construction sequencing, and in-house LEED administration.  Every project is thoughtfully designed and managed to ensure the greatest return in beauty, efficiency, and comfort.

Ostrich Egg Candle Holders from Isandi

The idea is as simple as it is genius – you take an egg and cut it in different forms. Then you polish the inside of the egg, and the product is finished! It’s the British designer Julia Leakey who developed this product for Khumbulani in 2002, and after this more than a thousand eggs have been exported to Norway.
The utilisation of ostrich eggs is not something new in Africa. The oldest culture, the San Culture, used and still use, pieces of ostrich eggs in jewellery and decorations. This has been carried on by many of the jewellery artists and fashion designers in the region.

The ostrich eggs that the candleholders are made of come from Oodtshorn in Karoo, where ostrich breeding is a big industry. The ostrich industry makes use of the whole animal - skin, feathers, bones, eggs and meat – and the breeding is well suited areas with dry climate, since the ostrich is undemanding and adaptive. An ostrich weights something between 90 and 150 kg, can be up to 2,70 meters high, and live for 75 years! The female ostrich lay eggs once a year, between 10 and 15 eggs. An ostrich egg weighs about 1,5 kilos, and is thereby the biggest egg in the world, but relatively it’s the world’s smallest egg compared to the ostrich chick’s size.

DesignTorget - a commercial market place for unique design

The Mission:
"DesignTorget is a commercial market place for unique design, for customers and designers that value style, function and innovation." This is a simple way to summarize our business idea. It also comes across in a good way in our slogan: "New, handpicked items. Every week. "
We pick a selection of articles for everyday use, from established as well as unknown designers. The articles are sold for a limited time in our fifteen shops in Sweden and Oslo and even in our webshop

The architect Jerry Hellström had been working for some time as a consultant on various projects at Stockholm´s Kulturhuset (The Culture House). In 1993 Kulturhuset asked him if he had any idea about what to do with a large space on the ground floor of their building, which had been empty for some time. This was at a time of recession in the Swedish economy, and lots of designers and inventors were unemployed. Jerry began to think about creating a marketplace for them and their products. DesignTorget was born and in the early days the products were delivered and sold on loading pallets, which were placed around in the shop. John Hamberg, who already owned a shop and was a man of many talents liked the idea and soon became a partner in the business.
Over the past 15 years, the company has grown and grown and we now have 15 shops in Sweden and in Oslo.

En Route Studio - extending the longevity of furniture lifecycles

           Pair vintage chairs with maps

San Francisco based En Route Studio began with the idea of extending the longevity of furniture lifecycles. Once-loved pieces face final destination in landfills after owners have discarded them. This studio believes that chairs can be diverted from the waste stream to become 'en route' again to new homes.

Looking through their Etsy page and webpage it looks like their focus are on refurbishing furniture, but what caught my attention was their fabulous hand tufted and hand knotted rugs which could last you a lifetime.

New rug designs

You must be crazy, but didn't like any of these designs? Well guess what, they also do custom rugs.
