Straight Line Designs is a one-of-a-kind workshop that has been operating out of Vancouver, British Columbia for the past 25 years. In addition to installations, sculptures and private commissions, designer Judson Beaumont and his staff of eight full-time craftspeople have designed and constructed a variety of custom-built furniture and projects for public institutions and children's exhibitions throughout North America and abroad. Focused on quality and custom design, Judson’s studio stays far away from mass production.

Japanese design

I say that this blog is supposed to focus on design from my two homes, Norway (or Scandinavia, Norway just won't cover it) and San Francisco.
But I have also lived in Japan for a couple of years and when I come across blogs about Japanese design, I can't help but feeling a little bit nostlagic.

I found this blog recently called Spoon Tamago written by a New Yorker who grew up in Japan, and I just can't choose which of his posts I want to show you here so I recommend you just go visit him at:

Floating Hotel in Sweden

Salt & Sill is located far out on the island KlĂ€desholmen, north of Gothenburg on the beautiful Swedish west coast.
They are Swede´s first floating hotel. Six cubic houses are built on pontoons and is floating outside the restaurant. The hotel consists of six two-storey buildings on floating pontoons. The hotel has 23 rooms with 46 beds, one of which is a suite. All the rooms have their own entrance and access to an outdoor seating area.

They also have a sauna-boat, a miniature copy of the floating hotel. The 11.9 x 6.5 meter large building is made of lightweight fibre-glass, and secured to a catamaran platform. It is powered by two 160 hp diesel engines from Volvo Penta, and reaches up to  of 15 knots. It can be used as a relax area, conference room, and wedding suite.
